— Big Top

Big Top is a large animatronic Ticket Taker found in the Big Top's Showroom attraction inside Murray's Costume Manor. He is a variation and precursor to Music Man, and a major antagonist in Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic.

Appearance[]

Regular[]

Big Top is a large animatronic head stationed atop a wooden booth. Atop the booth is a dull, red canopy in which Big Top's head and main four arms are attached. The lower half of the booth is brown with turquoise colored doors that open up to reveal four, small, zinc-colored arms with white, three-fingered, cartoon glove-styled hands at their ends. His four larger arms hold claw-like metallic hands at their ends, with the back two holding up one large sign each.

Big Top's face is adorned with glowing yellow eyes with metallic shutters over them, a large orange nose, and small blue cheeks. His upper lip is adorned with a flat white mustache, and he has matching curly white hair atop his head, with two sets of gramophones coming out of each side of his head. He wears a large black top hat with a red ribbon at its base, and small yellow lights adorning it. Finally, his mouth features a large music box cylinder within it, with his teeth acting as the comb for it.

The signs he holds read "Only $1 TRY YOUR LUCK THIS WAY" and "BUY HERE TICKETS Games - Fun - Food" respectively.

Busted[]

After being damaged from a fall, Big Top's face would be busted open, revealing his endoskeleton face. The shutters over his eyes have been crushed, and many of his teeth are now missing, with the remaining ones chipped or dirtied. His face and tophat have been pierced with many metal rods, with one notably being lodged in his right eye, and his crumpled top hat now holds multiple broken lights and a large crack. The gramophones atop his head and his large metal arms have been crushed, with their metal now appearing uneven and damaged. The paint along his base and the unbroken parts of his head has become scratched, and the metallic parts of his body have become stained with oil. Finally, his eyes now glow a bright red rather than the previous yellow.

Gameplay[]

When first encountered, Big Top will hold one of his smaller hands out from behind the curtain entrance to his room awaiting the player's ticket. After receiving it, Big Top will back away into the middle of room, repeating "Tickets Please" every so often. The player is then prompted to play one of three possible carnival games. After the player finishes each carnival game, the room will go dark and Big Top will attempt to attack the player, slowly spinning in place looking for them. To avoid Big Top, the player must stay out of his vision and stay away from the Mannequins that will speak if the player gets close, alerting Big Top.

Once the player has snuck past Big Top, they will have to complete an overflow puzzle before he crawls into the room to reset him and play the next game. After repeating this process two more times, the player can receive the "Grand Prize" causing Big Top to break off his rail and crawl through the ceiling, breaking it in the process.

Moments later, Big Top will ambush the player on the building's roof and begin to chase them, tearing down the stairwell and then proceeding to break through the roof of the location by smashing his hands through it and onto the ground in an attempt to grab the player. After evading him through multiple corridors, the player will come face-to-face with Big Top in the stairwell again, only for Big Top's weight to cause the remaining stairs to collapse, sending both falling, and destroying Big Top in the process.

Later, as the player descends the Welcome Show room to go to the RnD department in MCM, the now Busted Big Top will begin to chase the player once more, crawling out from a large tunnel and descending above them. The player must stay on top of the levers when the lift stops in order to stay as far from Big Top as possible. Once the elevator has reached the bottom, and the player gets out of the way, Big Top will fall to the bottom and be destroyed for good.

Trivia[]

  • Before the game's release, fans often referred to Big Top as "Maestro Man" or "Maestro Music Man" due to his appearance of that of a classical musician.
  • Taking into consideration when the character was made, Big Top is technically the precursor to all Music Man variations.
  • Many fans had doubts as to whether Big Top was in fact one of the characters controlled by Mimic because of his size, however in the celebration art after June 4th it is possible to see Mimic's eyes inside Big Top's eyes confirming that he is also controlled by it.[1]
Big Top Temp

Big Top Temp

  • Within the files, Big Top holds an extra model known as Big Top TEMP. This model appears as an extremely simplified and crude version of the character with stick arms and hair made entirely out of gramophones. The model holds no textures, animations or even a rig, simply being a static mesh.
    • While the model is labeled as a temp model, and clearly used for testing in early stages of development, it is unknown if it reflects a potential older design for the character or is simply an extremely crude interpretation of his final design's concept art.
  • Before his initial chase, the player can find a lone red ticket fly down in front of them as an indicator to Big Top's presence on the roof.
    • Similarly, before his final chase in the elevator, the player can just barely see red lights emitted from Big Top's eyes inside the tunnel he was waiting in.
  • Big Top is the only major antagonist whose damaged variant attacks the player separately from their dedicated segment, as Busted Big Top will not attack the player after Big Top's chase has concluded, but will attack the player later in the game at the start of the 4am segment.
  • Big Top is a character who only says variations of the same singular line, being "Ticket's Please." This is a trait seen before in Rockstar Freddy in Ultimate Custom Night.
