Bonnie the Rabbit, or simply known as Bonnie, is a major character and antagonist in the Five Nights at Freddy's Movie. He acts as the guitarist for the location, and is said to be the most aggressive member of the group[1]. He is based off the character of the same name from the games.

Appearance[]

Bonnie's appearance is similar to that of his from the games, being a large rabbit wearing a red bowtie. However, his appearance in the film is much closer to his appearance in Help Wanted specifically, being a lighter blue with very bright, bluish-white accents. As well as this, his accents are not consist with his game counterpart, as the lighter color on his stomach reaches up to his shoulders, and his feet pads are colored black instead of the bluish-white on the rest of his body. His bowtie is noticeably larger and made out of fabric, unlike the plastic-like material from the games, which gives it a frilly appearance. Finally, unlike his game counterpart, his guitar has a black strap that goes over his shoulders, much like Rockstar Bonnie's.

The Ghost Child who possesses Bonnie is depicted as a tall, dark skinned boy with short, curly black hair. He wears a dark blue sweater with yellow stripes, blue jeans, and most notably, a paper headband with rabbit ears.

Personality[]

For the first portion of the film, Bonnie is depicted to be somewhat of an emotionless killer, much like the other animatronics; being very hostile and untrustworthy towards any adults who enter the location, and showing no qualm with killing them. Bonnie in particular is stated to be the "most aggressive" of the animatronics.[1]

Despite this, Bonnie is actually revealed to be relatively harmless, as displayed through his friendship with Abby. This friendship also showcases how he is fairly kind towards children, being depicted as hostile up to the point where Abby introduces Mike as her brother. Bonnie is shown to be especially close to Abby compared to the others, as he accepts a drawing she made for them and allows her to play his guitar. He is also shown to be somewhat comical, such as the scene where he falls over after constructing a fort with the others, yet still manages a thumbs up to assure Abby that he's okay.

History[]

Background[]

Long before the events of the film, the child who possesses Bonnie was murdered by William Afton, and eventually stuffed inside the Bonnie animatronic. For an unknown amount of time after, Bonnie and his friends would kill people that William Afton, under the alias of Steve Raglan, lured into the Pizzeria as night guards.

At some point, Bonnie befriended Vanessa Shelly, though it is unclear as to if this was before or after he was murdered and possessed the animatronic.

Five Nights at Freddy's[]

During his first shift at Freddy's, Mike Schmidt explored the pizzeria, and had found the seemingly deactivated Bonnie on the show stage alongside Freddy & Chica. Later, after falling asleep, Mike had a dream of the day his brother was taken from him. During said dream, he was confronted by the six ghost children, including Bonnie's. When Mike attempted to ask them what happened to Garret, they all ran away.

During his second shift, Mike fell asleep again and had the same dream, becoming more furious in his attempt to get the ghosts to answer his question. Despite this, like before, Bonnie and the other ghost children ran away. After waking up from the dream, Mike meets Vanessa, who decides to properly introduce the animatronics to him. She does this by pressing the large "Showtime" button beside the main stage, which causes the lights to start up and the animatronics to begin performing the song Talking in Your Sleep by The Romantics. Though midway through their performance, Bonnie's guitar short-circuits and causes him and the other animatronics to deactivate, and the curtains to close.

After Mike's second shift, a group of criminals break into Freddy's to trash the place and get Mike to lose his job. During this break-in, each animatronic, including Bonnie, picks off one of the criminals. After he is scared by Chica, Hank runs into a supply closet to hide from the animatronics. This is where he is met with Bonnie standing directly behind him. As Hank attempts to escape the now locked closet, Bonnie begins to slowly walk towards him before killing Hank off-screen. As Jeff attempts to approach the room, Bonnie steps out, and scares Jeff away. Moments later, Jeff spots Bonnie alongside Chica on the cameras, where they look up at him as they send Mr. Cupcake through the vent.

The next night, during Mike's third shift, Abby walks around the building and ends up in front of the main stage. After hearing her scream, Mike runs to find Abby and sees Bonnie and the other animatronics huddled around her. After Abby eases the animatronics by introducing Mike, she explains that they were simply tickling her, and introduces each of them to Mike. She hands Bonnie a small drawing of a heart before thanking the group for playing with her. She and Mike then leave, leaving Bonnie and the others to appear sad at Abby's departure.

In Mike's fourth and second-to-last shift, Mike and Abby enter, and Abby immediately runs up to greet Bonnie and the others. As Freddy holds out his hand for a high-five from Abby, Bonnie can be seen waving to her. Abby then approaches Mike and Vanessa with plans to build a fort. As she explains these plans, Bonnie, as well as Freddy & Chica, stare down at the three. Afterwards, Bonnie aids the group in building a fort out of tables & chairs. When Abby claims that the fort be higher, Bonnie and Foxy team up to extend the height of the fort. Once it's complete, Bonnie holds his arms up in celebration before falling over on his back. Abby runs over to see if he's okay, to which he gives a simple thumbs up. After the fort is completed, Bonnie lays down underneath it with the rest of the group. A few minutes pass, and Bonnie goes on-stage with Freddy to perform Real Wild Child (Wild One) by Iggy Pop for Abby as she dances with Chica & Foxy. As Mike and Vanessa talks, Bonnie invites Abby on-stage to play his guitar, which results in her getting electrocuted. After Abby wakes up from the small burst caused by his guitar, Bonnie is seen surrounding her with Mike, Vanessa, and the other animatronics.

Before his final shift, Mike goes to Freddy's and forces himself to fall asleep to try to communicate with the ghost children one final time; being confronted by the six as usual. After the blonde-haired ghost child demands Mike give them Abby in exchange for Garret, Mike hesitantly accepts, before almost instantly realizing his mistake and taking it back. After this, Bonnie and the other ghost children begin to rapidly attack Mike from all angles, badly injuring him in the real world, and seemingly are the ones who hook him up to Torture Freddy off-screen.

After being brought to the location by Golden Freddy, Abby finds Bonnie and the others in their rightful places, all of them standing completely still. Suddenly, the animatronics reactivate, and once again begin performing Talking in Your Sleep for Abby. As Chica lures Abby into the backroom, Bonnie stands with Freddy on stage to look out for Mike. As Freddy continues to perform the song, Bonnie spots Mike crawling into the room through a vent and attempts to not-so-subtly warn Freddy of Mike's presence. Unfortunately, Mike is able to hide before Freddy turns around, which results in Mike using a nearby bucket of water to electrocute both him and Freddy, immobilizing them temporarily. Minutes later, Mike is knocked unconscious by William Afton, who calls for the children to wake up, causing Bonnie and the other electrocuted animatronics to stand back up and come to his aid. Bonnie and Freddy then proceed to stand at the edge of the stage and watch as Vanessa confronts William.

Eventually, Abby is able to stick up a drawing of what Afton actually did to the children, causing Bonnie and the other animatronics to realize he's been lying to them. As the four animatronics begin to surround William, he panics and begins to insult them. As his springlock suit begins to go off, and the location's power begins to flicker, Bonnie and the others glare at William, their eyes slowly turning red as they approach him. Bonnie joins the animatronics in pulling Afton's bleeding body away, and the building begins to full apart. It is unknown what happens to Bonnie, or the other animatronics, after the building is done falling to pieces.

Trivia[]

  • In several of the trailers, the animatronics are shown being powered down on stage after suddenly turning on. A brief shot in the second full length trailer shows that the sparks that burst upon the shutdown are directly in front of Bonnie, making it look like he's being electrocuted or outright exploded, leading to many jokes and fan art.
  • In the original trailer as well as a few others follow, Bonnie and the other animatronics' eyes would become red. This was met with mixed reaction from the community, some finding it funny and others hating it. Once the movie released, however, the red eyes had been completely scrubbed, with several scenes featuring the eyes not being in the theatrical release.
  • Unlike the video game, Bonnie is light blue instead of faded indigo and is shown to have a red strap along his neck to support his guitar in the film, something that he lacked in the game.
  • In the film, Bonnie's ghost kid is black, with no implication of this being the case in the games.
  • From the looks of the advertisements every character has a color they are assigned, with Bonnie's being yellow.
    • This is even more evident with the yellow strained glasses featuring Bonnie.
  • The lead designer, Robert Bennett, was originally making Bonnie purple due to all the references Bennett got depicting him as such. It took Scott himself to tell Bennett, "No, he's blue.".
