Are you looking for Shadow Mangle, the hardmode variant of Mangle?

The Hardmode Animatronics are a group of unique recolors that made their debuts in Five Nights at Freddy's VR: Help Wanted. They act as replacements for their regular counterparts in the game's Hardmode, otherwise known as Blacklight Mode.

Characters[]

Dark Foxy[]

Dark Foxy is an alternative version of Foxy that appears in the FNaF 1's Hard Mode level. While not referred to as a separate entity within the files, he had been considered to be an alternate variant by many fans before being made an official character via the Character Encyclopedia[1].

Appearance[]

Dark Foxy is entirely identical to Foxy, apart from the glowing white eye. He gets his name from the black and white filter put onto the Five Nights at Freddy's 1's Night 5 level. Foxy's jumpscare in the level would later be changed in the flatmode update, making Dark Foxy a black and white version of Burnt Foxy rather than Classic Foxy.

Gameplay[]

Dark Foxy's behavior is identical to Foxy's behavior in the FNaF 1 games, where he will sit in Pirate Cove, needing to be watched by the player to prevent him from rushing down the left hall. Should Foxy leave the cove, the player must quickly shut the left door before he arrives. He also attacks if the player looks outside their office, though this only happens in flat-mode.

Dark Foxy's primary appearance is in Foxy's jumpscare, as when the game initially released, Foxy was mistakingly not retextured to be Burnt Foxy to match the other characters' jumpscares, resulting in the fanbase identifying him as a unique character.

Trivia[]

  • Dark Foxy is very similar to another Hardmode animatronic, Party Freddy.
    • Both appear exclusively as jumpscares.
    • Both are monochromatic and shadowy versions of their regular counterparts.
    • Both were given fan names due to a lack of an official one in the files for either.
    • Neither were recognized as official characters until the release of the Character Encyclopedia.
      • All of these commonalities minus the first are also shared by the Dark Freddles.
  • Dark Foxy's jumpscare was corrected in the Flatmode update, where he now matches the other animatronics, and the player is now jumpscared by a monochromatic Burnt Foxy instead of a regular Foxy with a glowing eye.
    • Despite this fix, Dark Foxy would still become a separate character according to the Character Encyclopedia.

Dark Freddy & Party Freddy[]

Dark Freddy and Party Freddy are the shadowy Hardmode variants of Freddy Fazbear that appear in Parts and Service and Pizza Party respectively. Dark Freddy is also accompanied by Dark Freddles in his level.

Appearance[]

Dark Freddy is entirely black in color with glowing white eyes and teeth, having a design that is overall reminiscent of RWQFSFASXC. Party Freddy is virtually the same, albeit with the eyes and teeth now being black with red glows rather than Dark Freddy's white glow. In the Full Time edition of Help Wanted, Dark Freddy is strangely a normal, white-colored Freddy with a black bowtie rather than a shadowy black version of the character. He still keeps the glowing eyes and teeth in this version, however.

The Dark Freddles that accompany Dark Freddy are monochromatic, black variants of the Freddles, who appear virtually similar to their normal counterparts minus the difference in coloration.

Gameplay[]

Dark Freddy[]

In Blacklight mode, Dark Freddy's Blacklight level in Parts and Service is very similar to the original level. The area is changed to be surrounded by multiple static-filled screens. The Freddles also appear clinging to Freddy before disappearing after a few seconds. There are also multiple toys floating around the room. The biggest concern is the color is gone and the view is in grayscale. This makes the atmosphere unsettling, along with making things extremely hard to see. Minor changes include the watch glitching into a Dark Freddle when removed from Freddy.

Dark Freddy also acts as the character who jumpscares the player in Five Nights at Freddy's 1's Night 5 level.

Party Freddy[]

Party Freddy is unique in his behavior, as he does not actually replace Freddy in any form. During Pizza Party, the player must traverse a maze-like Pizzeria whilst avoiding animatronics. If the player enters the same room too many times, Party Freddy will jumpscare them.

Trivia[]

  • Dark Freddy is accidentally referred to and shown as Blacklight Freddy in the Character Encyclopedia.
    • Despite this, the Dark Freddles are still mentioned, and referred to as Dark Freddles on the page.
    • As well as this, he is claimed to be in FNaF AR rather than Help Wanted.
      • Strangely, none of the other Blacklights or Hardmode Animatronics are listed as being in AR, so it is unknown as to why he is listed as being a part of the game.
  • Party Freddy is very similar to another Hardmode animatronic, Dark Foxy.
  • Neon Bonnie and Dark Freddy are the only characters to change appearance in Help Wanted's Full Time edition.

Neon Bonnie[]

Neon Bonnie is the multi-colored hardmode variant to Bonnie that appears in Parts and Service.

Appearance[]

Neon Bonnie is identical to Bonnie, however he holds a metallic black texture that appears multi-colored under the level's constantly moving lights. He has black eyes with white pupils and blue irises.

Strangely, in the Full Time edition of Help Wanted, Neon Bonnie's textures are the same as regular Bonnie, resulting in the only difference between the two being their eye colors.

Gameplay[]

In Blacklight mode, Neon Bonnie replaces Bonnie. There are no mechanical changes to gameplay with Bonnie's repair, however, there is the additions of distorted music and multi-colored flashing lights, which are meant to disorient the player, and make tuning the guitar more difficult. The color scheme has also been changed to a blacklight palette.

Neon Bonnie also acts as the character who jumpscares the player in Five Nights at Freddy's 1's Night 5 level, as well as Pizza Party.

Trivia[]

Glitchbun

Bonnie with the wrong texture that appears in Funtime Foxy's Hard Mode level.

  • There is a glitch or an oversight in Funtime Foxy's Hard Mode level where the player may get jumpscared by a Bonnie with his head texture in the repair stage. This glitched Bonnie, often referred to as "Beacon Bonnie" by fans, uses the same eye texture as Neon Bonnie.
  • Neon Bonnie and Neon Chica are the only Hardmode animatronics to share a prefix.
    • They're also the only Hardmode animatronics to have the same eye textures as the scrapped Blacklight animatronics.
  • Neon Bonnie and Dark Freddy are the only characters to change appearance in Help Wanted's Full Time edition.

Neon Chica[]

Neon Chica is the darkly colored, glowing hardmode variant of Chica that appears in Parts and Service. She is typically accompanied by Nightmare Cupcake.

Appearance[]

Neon Chica holds the same model as Classic Chica, however she is entirely dark in color with a faint purple edge. Her eyes are black in color with white pupils and yellow irises. She is often accompanied by Nightmare Cupcake, who due to the level's lighting appears purple and orange.

Gameplay[]

Neon Chica's behavior in game is exactly the same as the original Chica. In the blacklight mode of Chica's level from the Parts and Service mode, Chica's cupcake is replaced with Nightmare Chica's cupcake, and giant bugs crawl around the room. Gameplay is nearly identical, except the chemispray no longer works after the first spray and the roaches must be removed by hand while chasing Nightmare Cupcake.

Neon Chica also acts as the character who jumpscares the player in Five Nights at Freddy's 1's Night 5 level, as well as Pizza Party.

Trivia[]

  • Because of the lighting of the level, many, including the official Character Encyclopedia, mistake Nightmare Cupcake for being a unique variant of the Cupcake, when in reality it is simply the original Nightmare Cupcake.
  • Neon Bonnie and Neon Chica are the only Hardmode animatronics to share a prefix.
    • They're also the only Hardmode animatronics to have the same eye textures as the scrapped Blacklight animatronics.
  • In her level due to the lighting, Neon Chica's eyes appear green & blue, despite being yellow & white.

Burnt Foxy[]

Burnt Foxy is the fiery and burned Hardmode variant of Foxy that appears in Parts and Service.

Appearance[]

Burnt Foxy is a brown-colored animatronic with a course texture. His suit is covered in glowing orange cracks which match his glowing orange eyes. Parts of his endoskeleton, particularly his hands and feet, also display a burnt appearance, being substantially darker than the other parts of his endoskeleton.

Gameplay[]

Burnt Foxy's behavior in game is exactly the same as the original Foxy. The main change in Foxy's Blacklight level is that the fuses now flash different colors and must have their placement timed, or else the player will be attacked. Also, when placing Foxy's right eye back in, all eyes in the drawer will be glowing yellow, most with smudges on them. The player must choose the eye with no smudges in order to avoid a jumpscare. The drawers are all numbered 1, possibly to confuse the players as to which drawer has the correct fuse. Also, looking away from Foxy once his head is back on will give him a chance to slip away and get the player. In terms of aesthetic changes, the area around the player and Foxy is now on fire.

Dark Foxy would eventually take on Burnt Foxy's appearance in his jumpscare.

Trivia[]

  • Burnt Foxy was the only Hardmode animatronic to not be present as a jumpscare in the Five Nights at Freddy's 1's Night 5 level. This resulted in the unintended creation of Dark Foxy.
  • Despite his eyes both glowing orange, in Burnt Foxy's maskless jumpscare, the missing eye is replaced by regular Foxy's eye.
  • Burnt Foxy has a slightly altered jumpscare in the Quest version of Help Wanted, with the key difference being the addition of reddish-pink lighting.
  • Burnt Foxy is the only one of the four Parts and Service Hardmode animatronics to not be in Pizza Party, as Foxy does not appear in the level.

Trivia[]

General Trivia[]

Help Wanted[]

  • Despite often being grouped with the Hardmode animatronics, Shadow Mangle does not replace their normal counterpart like most, as they are a separate enemy who accompanies Mangle.
  • Springtrap in Ennard's Hardmode Vent Repair level looks to be a more orangish color than his normal green. This strange coloration is caused by the model's texture nodes and UE lighting making him look more orange with purple accents.
    • It is hard to see this however due to the lighting making him look mostly dark purple.
    • Many people believed this to be another hard mode variant, however when removing the lighting in the level, it can be seen that "Virtualtrap" does not actually exist, and is in fact, just Springtrap.
      • The name of "Virtualtrap" comes from some assets used in Pizza Party.
  • Originally, Funko's Blacklight Animatronics were set to be the Hardmonde variants of the characters, but were ultimately scrapped in favor of original recolors.
  • While the Curse of Dreadbear DLC lacks any hardmode levels, it is possible that there were originally meant to be ones in it, as the Freddles hold unused hardmode variants in the DLC known as the Burned Freddles.

Help Wanted 2[]

  • Despite Help Wanted 2 holding a similar Hardmode level mechanic as the original Help Wanted, it introduces no new characters for most of it's Hardmode levels.
    • This is likely due to most of the Hardmode levels being continuations or unique levels, unlike Help Wanted which held mostly reskins of normal levels.
      • This could also be due to many of the enemies in the game having counterparts, such as the Shattered versions of the Glamrocks, or Yenndo being an endoskeleton similar to Funtime Freddy.
  • Jack-O-Moon shares many similarities with the Hardmode animatronics, being a reskinned version of a pre-existing character who replaces them in a Hardmode level.
    • Despite this, Jack-O-Moon does not technically count as one, as he appears first in Capt. Foxy's Log Ride, which is not a Hardmode level.
