The Demo-tronic Welcome Show is a large band of animatronics and character cutouts made to greet investors and tourists as the opening part to Murray's Costume Manor's showroom tours. The cast features multiple animatronics of varying species and themes, including that of both Mr. Helpful and Mrs. Helpful. They perform two short songs, with the Welcome show song being Fanfare of the Forgotten Ones and the Goodbye Show song being Backface Culling Paranoia.
Gameplay[]
The Demo-tronic cast act primarily as background characters, with almost none of them serving larger roles outside of their performances or as props in the various workshops throughout MCM.
When the player first makes their way into the building, the show will start automatically being announced by Mr. Helpful. As the show goes on, Mrs. Helpful will announce actions taken by the various characters, before Mr. Helpful will return in the upper right for the big finale. Just before opening the main door to the Showroom lobby however, Mr. Helpful and the entire band break down, causing the room's lights to shut off and red warning lights to begin slowly flickering, and the door to remain shut. To proceed, the player must rewind Mr. Rocktapus back to his starting position, giving them the ability to leave into the Security room.
Later at 1am, Arnold is sent back into the room to reset the show so it can finish properly, opening access to the Showroom Lobby. After watching the show for a second time, it successfully finishes and a message of Edwin advertising the Demo-tronic Welcome Show plays, with him reminding his tourists that everything in the room could be rented or purchased.
The Welcome Show make one final appearance during the start of the normal and secret endings, in which the player must pass through the room one final time and use the center of the room as an elevator to MCM's Research and Development sector.
Characters[]
The Demo-Tronic Welcome show features five different themed sets of characters with at least one animatronic per set. These themes include the Jugband, a Circus Crew, a Forest theme, a Pirate Crew featuring Rocktapus, and a set of Birthday-themed characters.
Jugband Monty[]
Jugband Monty is a member of the Jugband, playing the banjo. He is a large, green and yellow cartoon alligator wearing blue overalls covered in multi-colored patches, and a straw hat with a red feather on it. He is missing most of his upper teeth, only having one, and is missing six of his lower teeth. He has a long tail that sits on the ground with sharp scutes lining it. Finally, he has small red eyes with yellow sclera, purple eye bags and big bushy eyebrows above them.
Jugband Monty's design holds many similarities to Springlock Monty, implying the one could be based on the other, or that both could be the same character and dual precursors to Montgomery Gator.
Jugband Hippo[]
Jugband Hippo is a member of the Jugband who plays the violin. He is a large, purple cartoon hippo covered in moles wearing dirty blue jeans, and a small straw hat. He has uneven teeth, small strands of hair that act as whiskers and a bear, and a unibrow above his close-together eyes. Finally, he has a short tail with a small tuft of dark purple fur at the end of it.
He is potentially one of the many animatronic designs stolen by former MCM employees, acting as a potential precursor to Mr. Hippo.
Jugband Frogs[]
The Jugband Frogs are a duo of Frog animatronics who play different instruments in the Jugband. Both of them are small green frogs with undersides, as well as yellow on the soles of their feet, their palms, and on their cheeks. Both of them also have small antenna on the tops of their heads with a yellow ball at the end of it.
The Girl Frog wears a dark red dress with a matching red bow on the back of her head. Her eyes are pure white with black lines as pupils, with said lines curved upwards to make her appear happy. She has dark red lipstick and black eyelashes. Finally, she uses a wooden wash board as an instrument, dragging her fingers down its panels for music.
The Boy Frog is simpler in design, wearing blue overalls and having his line-pupils curved downward to exhibit a calmer expression than the Girl Frog. He plays a unique xylophone using wooden mallets that have their heads covered with fabric.
His xylophone is actually another animatronic, being a snake simply denoted as "XyloPhone" by its 3D model rig. The snake has a long rainbow colored body with different orbs attached to poles making it up. The last six orbs in its body get progressively smaller to act as the end of the snake's tail, and the only non-orb part of its body is its head, which is a simple green snake head with its tongue sticking out. During the performance, the orbs move up and down in a wave-like pattern, going in-tune with the Boy Frog's playing of the xylophone snake.
The frogs also hold three variants separate from the Welcome Show. One is a plain frog with no clothing, with the second being an orange and blue recolor of it. The third one is an unused orange and purple version of the Boy Frog with tan overalls and green cheeks.
The Jugband Frogs could potentially be one of the many animatronic designs stolen by former MCM employees and may act as potential precursors to Happy Frog.
Juggling Duck[]
The Juggling Duck, as its name implies, is a duck animatronic who partakes in juggling for the Circus. The Duck is simple in design, being a cartoon depiction of an American White Pekin duck, albeit wearing an orange and yellow jester's hat with golden bells on the ends of the ears. It has large wings, a long orange bill, and matching orange feet. During the Welcome Show, while the animatronic itself is incapable of juggling, it stands in front of a light display with egg-shaped bulbs that light up in a pattern to make the duck appear as if it were juggling eggs.
Many more variations of the juggling duck can be found through MCM, many of which lack the duck's jester hat. These variations include a light blue one with a blue and white hat and a dark yellow beak, a red one with a red and yellow hat, a dark brown one with a black and green hat and a black beak, and a light brown one with a stripe on its neck and a green and yellow hat.
Lasso Pig[]
Lasso Pig is a cowboy animatronic who stands as a part of the Circus crew. Lasso Pig is a cartoon pig dressed as a cowboy, wearing a small black cowboy hat, a black bandana around his neck, white button-up shirt with a red leather vest, blue jeans, and a combo of matching black leather gloves and belt. He also wears black cowboy boots with red soles and a small yellow star stitched onto the front of them. He has a small curly pig's tail, and a chubby frame. Lasso Pig's face, stuck in a permanent open-mouthed smile, holds large cheeks, large ears, small eyes and a big pig snout. He holds bushy brown eyebrows, messy brown hair on only the sides of his head, and a large handlebar mustache. He also has one gold tooth in his permanently open smile. Finally, Lasso Pig, true to his name, holds a large rope lasso, which he swings around whilst balancing on one foot during performances.
Lasso Pig may possibly be one of the many animatronic designs stolen by former MCM employees, and could potentially act as a precursor to Pigpatch.
Diving Seal[]
The Diving Seal is a small blue seal animatronic who acts as a member of the Circus Crew. It is a light blue cartoonish depiction of a seal with orange cheeks, a tangerine colored mustache and hair, as well as a red clown nose on the end of its pale blue snout. It wears pink swim gear including large goggles on his eyes, swim briefs on the end of his tale, and three inflatable tubes around his neck and flippers.
During the performance, at Mrs. Helpful's announcement, the Diving Seal will live up to its name by performing a "death-defying dive" in which it will lean over the edge of its stage and a spotlight will move onto a bucket with his tail sticking out the top, emulating the idea of the animatronic actually diving. After this, he will retract backwards to hide behind a curtain on the back of his stage to allow Mr. Helpful to appear and perform his finale.
Swing Bee[]
Swing Bee is a large bee animatronic who is part of the Welcome Show's forest section. They are a large cartoon bee, being yellow in color with brownish-black stripes on their lower body. They have large blueish wings, long brown antenna with white balls on the end, and a small flower crown made of white daisies. Their face is fixed into a permanent smile with a large red nose and orange cheeks. Their limbs are a dark brown with white mittens and yellow shoes respectively. Finally, they have a small, white, pointed stinger on their backside. During the performance, Swing Bee sits on a swing with vine-like ropes, swining backwards and forwards, kicking their feet along with each swing.
Swing Bee is one of two members of the Demo-tronic Welcome Show to also be a mascot suit wearable by the Mimic. In their mascot form, Swing Bee has two variants based on a ladybug and caterpillar respectively. As well as them, the actual Swing Bee animatronic suit has two variants that can be found as props. The first is a mostly red variant that also has dark purple stripes and limbs, a light green nose, tongue and cheeks, pink balls on the antenna, and no flower crown. The second is a blue variant, being mostly blue with dark blue limbs, teal stripes, an orange nose, tongue and cheeks, and once again, no flower crown. This variation is unique as it only appears in one spot above the performer entrance to the pirate puppet show theater. While neither variant has a crown, they do hold textures for unique flower crowns, with the blue one having a purple flower, and the red one having a dark pink flower.
Rocktapus[]
Mr. Rocktapus appears as the primary animatronic for the Pirate/Underwater themed portion of the Welcome Show. He is a large yellow octopus who is styled to appear as a stereotypical depiction of a hippie. He has long green, dread-like hair with a matching mustache and eyebrows, and small bits of purple waterweeds sticking out of his hair. He wears a blue starry bandana, yellow star sunglasses, and white gloves on the ends of his eight algae-covered arms. Each hand except two holds a drumstick, with the only ones not holding a drumstick holding a maraca and a half-moon tambourine respectively.
In the show stage band, Rocktapus plays a variety of different drums, though he only enters the performance about halfway through due to waiting behind a curtain for Mrs. Helpful's cue. After the first failed performance, he acts as a minor obstacle that the player must send backwards in order to proceed.
Birthday Puppy[]
Birthday Puppy appears as a large cartoon dog animatronic who acts as the centerpiece to the Birthday-themed portion of the Welcome Show. Birthday Puppy has a long yellow snout with a pink nose and a goofy face with a magenta tongue sticking out at all times. It has large paws with purple nails, and bulging, green-yellow eyes looking in opposing directions. Around its eyes are long eyelashes, yellow eyelids, and magenta eyebags. Birthday Puppy is seen wearing a gigantic shiny purple bowtie, green and purple striped pants, a dark orange shirt almost indistinguishable from its fur, and a tall yellow and pink striped party hat. Its long thin ears, which are attached to its head via a single nail for each, appear with stripes that that match its party hat.
During performances, Birthday Puppy simply sits in-place and turns its head with the music. According to order forms, Birthday Puppy is a more recent animatronic, being in production since January 24, 1977.
Birthday Puppy holds a noteworthy variant seen in both the workshop surrounding the Security Office, as well as Jackie's Birthday Showroom. This variant has white fur, pink nails, a pale orange snout, and green eyes. The party hat and ears now hold orange and yellow stripes, as well as a pale orange pom-pom on the hat, and its tongue and eyebags appear more pink. It wears a full set of light blue and dark pink striped pajamas, and a gigantic shiny blue bowtie which its eyelids now match the color of.
Birthday Puppy's default appearance is the second of the Demo-tronic Welcome Show cast to also appear as a mascot suit that the Mimic can wear.
Birthday Hats[]
The Birthday Hats are a set of party hat "animatronics" who appear along the cake in the Welcome Show's birthday section. They all appear as cone-shaped party hats with crinkled up paper for limbs, and shiny cut-out paper hands. While there is a large number of party hats, they only come in three different variations. The first variation holds blue and white diagonal stripes going along its cone body, with dark pink limbs and blue hands. It has a derpy face with its eyes pointed in different directions, and two shiny purple pom-poms on its chest. The second variation is a white party hat with overlapping purple, blue and yellow polka dots, and purple limbs and hands. It holds a large smiley face with its eyes looking to the left, and a large dark teal, almost black-colored, pom-pom on its top. The final variation is entirely a salmon-pink with dark pink limbs and red hands. It holds a generic open-mouthed smiley face, and a crinkly tutu around the bottom of its cone body.
The Birthday Hats during performances turn on a rail around the edge of the cake above the Birthday Puppy, with one of each of the three sitting atop the cake at all times.
Welcome Show Camera[]
The Welcome Show Camera is a small camera animatronic found at the very entrance of the Welcome Show room. It is a large polaroid camera with small white eyes and a mouth dispensing a polaroid photo of Birthday Puppy. It has a large flashbulb attached to its right side, and a black tripod that it sits atop. It is the only animatronic in the room to remain entirely motionless, aside from the photo in its mouth moving in and out constantly. At the end of the show, the photo fully comes out and remains sitting in-place in the camera's mouth.
The Welcome Show Camera could potentially be a reference to Showbiz Pizza's Pizzacam animatronic, who like the Welcome Show Camera, was an animatronic camera who watched the performers.
Animatronic Cutouts[]
The Welcome Show's cast features a variety of wooden character cutouts in each themed section. Each cutout has at least one moving part to it, with the ones that don't have dedicated moving parts simply bobbing up and down during performances.
The Jugband cutouts consist of a king frog dressed in a red cape with a white collar and golden crown, a blue bowtie-wearing frog, and a dragonfly dressed in goggles and a brown scarf.
The Circus Crew cutouts consist of a yellow sheep holding a popcorn bucket with popcorn-shaped wool, a blue and pink sheep with cotton-candy wool, a sleeping lion with a striped blue and white ring around its torso and a wagging tail, and two grey mice in a red and white hot-air-balloon. The circus also features two wooden masks that sway back and forth, being a sun comedy mask and a moon tragedy mask.
The forest scene features a squirrel cutout, a bee holding a green and blue honey pot leaking honey, a purple snake with a diamond pattern along its back, a pink bird in a nest with two baby birds hatching out of blue eggs, and a wheelbarrow filled with various flowers with different faces and personalities.
The underwater section features a band of pirates, featuring an orange shark with a brown hat, belt and golden earrings, a crazed sea turtle with the skull and crossbones painted on its shell, a grinning mollusk covered in cracks with two earrings, a dopey blue and yellow flounder-like fish wearing a black cap and belt, and a large purple crab with crooked teeth holding up a treasure chest filled with golden doubloons. All of the pirate cutouts reappear as members of the Puppet Crew, albeit only briefly.
The Birthday section features a set of four different balloon dog cutouts of varying colors, as well as a giftbox with two googly eyes and gloved hands giving a thumbs up. The gift box bares close resemblance to No. 1 Crate, suggesting it is a precursor to the Trash and the Gang member.
The final cutouts appear as the centerpiece of the Welcome Show, only appearing at the very end, being the Sun and Moon. At the end of the show, the Moon opens up to reveal the grinning Sun as the door opens to the lobby.
Unused Content[]
Ringmaster Rat[]
Ringmaster Rat is an unused member of the Welcome Show, only appearing as a prop in different rooms in-game, with his role being usurped by the Helpfuls. Ringmaster Rat is a brown, wooden rat animatronic with a sly expression and a body identical to that of the Helpfuls. His face and stomach are mostly tan, he has long spindly whiskers, and he has a long thin pink tail curled upwards. He wears a red showman's jacket with gold trimming and buttons, and a two-toned brown striped vest underneath. Finally, he wears a small black tophat and holds a long brown cane.
Despite being scrapped, Ringmaster Rat appeared to have been dropped from the Welcome Show fairly late into development, as his rig and model can be found out-of-bounds for the Welcome Show, and he shares Mr. Helpful's animations from the start of the show. On top of this, Ringmaster Rat wouldn't go fully unused, as he would appear as a prop in the Retail Showroom, as well as having his parts around the tunnels leading to Edwin Murray's estate.
Early Concepts[]
Early concept art for the Welcome Show showcases a vastly different cast of characters, and a notably smaller set at that. Originally, the centerpiece of the show would have been three large animatronics; a dog playing the violin, a raccoon playing a keyboard, and in the center, a large bear playing the guitar. To one side of the stage with the three animatronics would have been a small mouse character with a bit of cheese, three identical dancing bear women, and early versions of the flower character cutouts and Swing Bee, who originally was a brown mammalian character with pigtails reminiscent of Circus Baby. On the other side of the stage are notably fewer characters, being a flamingo flamenco dancer, an earlier version of the Stanley head found in Edwin Murray's office, and a portrait style animatronic clown just barely viewable to the upper lefthand side of the flamingo.
According to Steel Wool, this was one of the earliest concepts for the Welcome Show[1], which can be clearly seen in how multiple characters here would eventually become other characters.
Trivia[]
- The Demo-tronic song scene may possibly be a reference to Disneyland attractions such as "It's a small world" or its parodies such as the "Welcome Song" during the 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
- The Demo-tronic cast appear to be the origins of many different characters in Fazbear Entertainment's roster, with the most obvious being Jugband Monty acting as a precursor to Montgomery Gator, and the most speculative being Lasso Pig acting as a precursor to Pigpatch.
- One specific mail log that makes reference to employees taking designs and fleeing MCM specifically mentions someone named "Stan" who was going to go along with the message writer to start up their own machine shop using stolen designs made by Fiona Murray. This could be in reference to Stan's Budget Tech, a company from Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator that the player purchases the Mediocre Melodies from.
- Swing Bee and Birthday Puppy are the only characters in the Demo-tronic show to also appear as mascot suits worn by the Mimic.
- Similarly, both characters hold unique variants in their prop/animatronic forms that their mascot suit forms don't share, and vice versa.
- Concept art reveals a scrapped cutout character for the Forest scene, being a snail whose eyes would have bobbed up and down. This cutout can still be found in-game, albeit just not as a part of the Welcome Show.
- Additionally, concept art shows that the Squirrel cutout was originally meant to wave to the player, which it does not do in the final game.
- The squirrel cutout still lacks a front left leg, implying that it was designed with the original concept in mind, and that it not waving was scrapped extremely late into the development.
