Edwin Murray Jr[1] is the former owner of Murray's Costume Manor, as well as its parent company Murray Co., and an engineer. He worked at his father's company before he and his wife, Fiona Murray, would take over the business and have their son, David. He is a major supporting character in Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic, and is the creator of the game's main antagonist, the Mimic.
He is also the canonical in-universe voice of Mr. Helpful.
Appearance[]
Edwin, while never seen in-game, is seen through multiple photos and portraits found throughout the location. He is depicted as a tall, thin, light-skinned man with dark brown hair. He has a large nose and ears, pale blue eyes, and large black glasses. While his outfits vary between photos, he is always seen wearing a bowtie.
Personality[]
Edwin is mostly portrayed as being a very intelligent and eager, yet obsessive individual. While he seemed to often doubt his own abilities in his younger years, with the encouragement of his wife, Edwin is shown to have a real passion and skill for robotics, most clearly seen in his creation of the extremely intelligent Mimic programs. His obsessive behavior is mostly showcased in his display of being a workaholic, missing events in favor of working on projects; though it also showcased in his behavior after his wife's passing in refusing to let her work go to waste, as well as embracing the Mimic's persona of her as the real thing.
After Fiona and David's passing, recordings of Edwin begin to show a more aggressive side to the character, lashing out at everyone, including his employees whom he dubs traitors, and constantly complaining about changes made to his commissioned projects. Edwin is also shown to be somewhat obsessed with the idea of saving money, inventing the concept of recycling and advanced artificial intelligence programs for the sole purpose of cutting down on employee costs.
Finally, Edwin is depicted as having some somewhat sexist views on women, with said views sometimes bleeding into his work. This can be seen at various points, such as the Clean-O-Vac commercial stating that the mom "won't have to leave the kitchen for the house to be spotless," or even more directly through his interactions with M1, in which it is entirely M1's role as "Fiona" to make dinner or clean the house. He is still shown to be very loving and supportive of his wife and her work, though the previously seen views were extremely common at the time of Edwin's life, which could explain the seemingly contradictory behavior.
History[]
Edwin Murray Jr.[1] worked as an engineer at his father's company, Murray Co. While working on a project, Edwin meets Fiona and asks for her to record her voice for what he's working on. After an unknown period of time, the two would form a romantic relationship and eventual marriage. After his father passed away and passed on the company to Edwin, he was left in shock, not knowing what to do. After some encouragement from Fiona, however, Edwin would decide to shift the company's focus to allow him to make some of his invention ideas real. Murray's Costume Manor would slowly become a much bigger studio than before, being contracted by many companies, most notably Fazbear Entertainment, who would contract Edwin for not just characters, but also for full on animatronic models. He is also heavily implied to have aided the company's founders in the creation of Springlock Suit technology.
Edwin would go on to create Chica the Chicken and for a roller rink known as Chica's Party World, as well as Foxy the Pirate for his own stage show, with both being designed by his wife, Fiona. He would also coin the term "recycling", creating a line of animatronics known as "Recycled Auto-Mations" who would do busy-work around the MCM studio, with the most noteworthy example being Nurse Dollie. Other early creations of his included things such as the Clean-O-Vac, Murray's Magic Coat Rack, the Stay Up Latte coffee maker, and the Mycellium Men Musical Plushie.
Eventually, Edwin and Fiona would go on to have a son whom they named David. Edwin by this time had morphed into something of a workaholic, obsessing over his projects and even missing David's second birthday party so he could work on something, much to his wife's chagrin. However, it was during this birthday party where Edwin would have a breakthrough, and begin designing a project that he stated would be bigger than anything he had made before; a project that was later revealed to be the Mimic. Later on, despite not wanting her to go, Fiona Murray would head to the Fall Fest, leaving Edwin a personal message as to why she's doing so. Unfortunately, Fiona would die at the Fall Fest in an unexpected fire, leaving Edwin devastated. Shortly after, Edwin and David would "celebrate" David's third birthday, with Edwin trying his best to comfort David and help him understand why his mother couldn't attend.
Sometime after, Edwin would continue his work on the Mimic, but would also begin to notice his wife's voice being repeated back to him on certain frequencies. After the Mimic, at this time known as M1, was finished, Edwin would introduce it to David, describing it as David's new babysitter who would live with them all the time. Then, sometime during this period of watching over David, Mimic would unexpectedly begin to mimic Fiona's voice and mannerisms. Edwin would proceed to completely go along with it, treating M1 like it was actually Fiona, even having it cook dinner and bake a cake for David's birthday. Unfortunately, just around the time of his birthday, David would be struck by a car whilst under the care of M1. Completely and utterly destroyed by this, Edwin would become desperate, leading to him listening to M1's idea of making a second Mimic to replace David. However, just before going through with it, Edwin would realize the insanity of his situation, opting to instead lash out at M1 and seal its programming inside the F10-N4 computer. Edwin would then make the M2 program and put it inside of the Mimic's body.
At some point after this, Fazbear Entertainment would approach Edwin with a new commissioned project only known as the "Fazbear Project." Said project would entail Edwin creating a wholly new animatronic cast for their upcoming pizzeria. However, throughout this project, Henry Emily and William Afton, the company's founders, would continually make changes, with Edwin becoming more and more stubborn with each change; first expressing annoyance at the shift away from Springlocks, and then later expressing that he absolutely refused to use Henry's new designs, finding them creepy and wanting to honor his late wife's designs. William, and presumably Henry, would then go on to sneakily sabotage Edwin's company, with them convincing one of Edwin's admin-level employees to leak his designs to them to take, and later having that same employee recruit others to leave MCM in favor of Fazbear Entertainment.
Slowly catching on to the betrayals around him, Edwin would slowly go mad, taking admin access away from all employees who had it, dubbing them traitors, and even stealing any personal belongings that were left in the admin wing. Edwin would enter a slight depressive state later, becoming determined to finish the Fazbear Project to get his friends and employees back and make everything right again. Later, when M2 spontaneously began to mimic David's voice, Edwin would enter a state of complete and utter rage, taking it out on the Mimic by beating it and breaking off its legs with his bare hands, all while shouting at the machine to stop pretending to be him. This action, however, would then infuse the machine with Edwin's agony, and in turn, introduce the Mimic program to the concept of violence.
This would cause M2 to internalize and perpetuate the worst of Edwin, culminating in an explosive attack on the engineer in his home office. Edwin would survive, but had his legs injured by the explosion, leaving him helpless on the floor. All the while, M2 began to mimic Edwin's voice, pretending to be him making an audio log about the explosion and adding an extension onto the Clean-O-Vac. Edwin would plead to the machine to call for help, only for M2 to mock Edwin, commenting on his newly fashioned legs. As Edwin continued to apologize and plead to M2, it would simply continue to mock its creator, shooting back quotes presumably from Edwin's own mouth of him neglecting his son in favor of work. After Fazbear Entertainment failed to get into contact with Edwin about his overdue project, they began to send extraction teams to MCM to collect their property, only for M2 to kill every person who entered the building.

Gameplay[]
While Edwin never appears in the game physically, his voice is heard all throughout the location through pre-recorded audio tracks, as well as speaker systems for tours. His voice is also heard in the video tapes found throughout his home.

- Jim Meskimen was revealed to be Edwin's voice actor before the game released, however the way this was revealed was through Meskimen's own reply to a YouTube comment.[2]
- Edwin and Fiona Murray's voice actors, Jim and Tamra Meskimen, are also a married couple in real life.
- On top of this, the two also voice Mr. & Mrs. Helpful, who as their name suggests, are married characters. In-universe, Edwin and Fiona are also the respective voice actors of the Helpfuls.
- Edwin was credited to making vacuum cleaners separate from the Clean-O-Vac, with them being advertised in Five Laps at Freddy's Midnight Motorist track.
- While never referred to as such in-game, Edwin's full name is likely "Edwin Murray Jr" as file names for his father's portrait reveal his name to be "Edwin Sr."[1]
