— Golden Freddy's demand towards Mike.

Golden Freddy is the secondary antagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's Movie. He is a mysterious golden variant of Freddy Fazbear, and is based on the character of the same name from the games.

Appearance[]

Golden Freddy's appearance in the film is mostly similar to that of his game counterpart, being a large golden colored bear with a black tophat and bowtie. Though unlike the other animatronics, his appearance in the film holds many noteworthy changes, some of which appear to reference his withered variant from the second game. His left ear is entirely missing, leaving only a metallic rod and wires sticking out. His left eye is an empty eye-socket with a withered and broken eyelid that has wires hanging out of it, and his right eye is completely black minus his glowing blue iris and pupil. His hat appears to have minor burn marks on them, and the hat also sits at a slight angle in most scenes. Given that he is a recolor of Freddy, he also holds the same proportion changes that regular Freddy holds, such as the less-pronounced cheeks, or the frilly bowtie.

The Ghost Child who possesses Golden Freddy is depicted as a young boy with blonde hair and pale skin. He is seen wearing a brown shirt with yellow stripes, and blue jeans. Unlike the other souls, Golden Freddy's does not have a prop to indicate who he possesses.

Personality[]

Throughout his few scenes, Golden Freddy is shown to be a very deceptive and manipulative person. This is shown in many different ways, such as him preying on Mike's trauma in an attempt to get Mike to give them his living sister in exchange for a fake dream of his brother, or through him tricking Abby into coming back to the Pizzeria to kill her, and even lying to her about about Jane "sleeping."

He appears to act somewhat as a ringleader to the other ghost children, as he is the only one who ever directly speaks to Mike, and is always shown to be in front of the group. Finally, he is shown to have a deep hatred for William, as he glares at his murderer in a final scene depicting William still writhing in pain within the springlock suit.

History[]

Before Five Nights at Freddy's[]

Long before the events of the film, the child who possesses Golden Freddy was murdered by William Afton. Not much else is known about Golden Freddy apart from this, as it is unclear as to if he ever aided the other animatronics in their killings, or if he was friends with Vanessa like the others. It is also unknown what suit he would've been stuffed in, as there is no indication that Golden Freddy exists within the Pizzeria.

Five Nights at Freddy's[]

During his first and second shifts, Mike Schmidt falls asleep in his office and has a dream of the day his brother was taken from him. During said dream, he was confronted by the six ghost children, including the blonde boy who possesses Golden Freddy. In both dreams, Mike attempts to ask them what happened to Garrett, only for them all to run away. In his third shift, only the Blonde Boy appears in Mike's dream. When he asks the boy for his help, the boy then asks Mike what he'd give them if they showed him who took Garrett. Mike says anything, and the boy disappears.

Before his final shift, Mike goes to Freddy's and forces himself to fall asleep to try to communicate with the ghost children one final time; being confronted by the six as usual. During this dream however, the blonde boy proposes a deal with Mike; stating that the ghost children can let him dream of his family every night in exchange for Abby. Mike hesitantly accepts, before almost instantly realizing his mistake and taking it back. After this, all the children disappear before they begin to rapidly attack Mike from all angles, badly injuring him in the real world, and seemingly are the ones who hook him up to Torture Freddy off-screen.

Golden Freddy then finds his way into Mike & Abby's house, where he knocks out their aunt, Jane. When Abby comes to investigate, she momentarily mistakes him for Freddy, before his ghost appears in front of the animatronic clarifying who he is. The two then get in a cab, much to the driver's dismay at getting "the weirdos," before they find themselves in front of Freddy's. Abby heads in excitedly, though Golden Freddy does not. When she turns around, he is missing entirely.

Golden Freddy's soul appears one final time, where he is seen angrily watching William Afton as he writhes in pain from the springlock suits. As Afton attempts to reach out to the blonde boy for help, the boy simply shuts the door, ending the film.

Trivia[]

  • In the movie's ending, Golden Freddy leaves Afton writhing in pain from the springlock suit, similar to his fate in Five Nights at Freddy's 3 after being cornered and chased by the spirits of the children.
  • This version of Golden Freddy has notable differences to the one shown in the mainstream videogames.
    • In the games, its possessor's gender is left ambiguous, while in the movie he's clearly a boy.
    • This version of Golden Freddy is never confirmed nor hinted at to be the previous mascot of Freddy's before Freddy Fazbear. Similar to Spring Bonnie, it's never stated if his actual name is Fredbear, or even as much as Golden Freddy, like in the games.
    • While in the games he was in a better shape in the first game, he seems to be in his "Withered" state in the movie, evidenced by the lack of his left ear and eye.
    • It is commonly theorized that there's two or more souls in control of the animatronic in the game continuity, while nothing hints at this in the movie.
  • The actor for Golden Freddy, Grant Freely, shared a complimentary post for his performance on Instagram, which addressed his character as Cassidy. Some have taken this as confirmation that Cassidy is his name in the film, which is not directly stated.
    • It is possible that Grant simply used this name due to the game counterpart of his character having it.
  • The ghost possessing Golden Freddy is the only one of the Missing Children who doesn't wear any accessories related to the animatronic he possesses, implying he's more self aware than them and could be the only one who remembers what William Afton did.
  • According to Artie Esposito, Golden Freddy had a suit for an actor to wear, but it was never used as Golden Freddy is never seen walking.
  • In the film's novelization, it's Abby who comes up with the name Golden Freddy to describe the character.
  • In both Afton and Abby's drawings of the incident, Golden Freddy's soul is actually entirely absent, with the sixth person instead having brown hair and a red shirt, resembling Garrett more.
    • This could possibly be meant to indicate that Golden Freddy was already aware of who William really was, though this is unconfirmed. This would also explain how Golden Freddy's soul knew the answer to who took Garrett, despite the souls believing Afton to be their friend.
      • This is further backed up by Grant Feely, the blonde boy's actor.[1]
