— The Mimic when first encountered.

The Mimic is a large animatronic endoskeleton who acts as the main antagonist of the Security Breach books, Tales from the Pizzaplex, but also as the main antagonist and final boss of both Security Breach, its DLC RUIN, and the upcoming title Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic.

A potential form it takes on known as Glitchtrap, also acts as the main antagonist of FNaF VR: Help Wanted and its sequel, Help Wanted 2.

Speculation

While unconfirmed, the Tales from the Pizzaplex books heavily imply that Burntrap, and by extension, Glitchtrap, are actually the Mimic and Mimic1 program respectively. Evidence for this includes things such as the Mimic having it's arm curved in the same manner as Burntrap, Mimic wearing the corpse of one of it's victims in the past (similar to Burntrap), and Mimic being suggested to have witnessed the MCI (Missing Children's Incident), which could explain why Glitchtrap and Burntrap mimic Afton. Other evidence to suggest this includes the general timeline of the epilogues, Glitchtrap mimicking Tape Girl's voice in Help Wanted, Mimic's left arm being the same model as Burntrap's, as well as Help Wanted 2's usage of Glitchtrap. However nothing is directly confirmed as of now.

Other pieces of speculation include the idea that the Mimic1 program could have been the circuit board that was scanned into Help Wanted, or that Endo-02, and possibly Endo-01, are Mimic models, as it's suggested that Fazbear Entertainment made endoskeletons based off the Mimic, though there is not as much evidence to support these theories in particular.

Appearance

Glitchtrap

Glitchtrap is primarily golden yellow in color, with lighter accents on his ears, torso and snout. His face is egg shaped with bright purple eyes, short eyelashes, and long, thin eyebrows. He has two black whiskers on either side of his snout and a large, grinning mouth sporting off-white teeth with two larger ones on top. He has a deep purple bow tie and a matching star speckled vest. He has two dark buttons below his bowtie. In the main lobby, he glows a ghostly green. Unlike most of the animatronics, he appears more like a proper costume, with no visible electronics. There's stitching along his hands, joints, and ears.

After the first tape is found, Glitchtrap's first form seems to be ghostly translucent, with a choppy animation, making his appearance hard to make out, other than having a completely green palette and glowing purple eyes. Collecting more tapes brings him closer, and collecting coins makes his appearance more solid and his animation more fluid.

Burntrap

Similar to Springtrap and Scraptrap from previous FNAF games, Burntrap is a withered Spring Bonnie animatronic infused with a rotting corpse. However, unlike the previous two, very little of the suit remains on his body, only having the head, ears, torso, pelvis, left thigh, and left foot. His endoskeleton appears to be a mixture of the springlock, glamrock and nightmare endoskeletons, as well as being infused with tendrils of burnt flesh, and his right hand having two skeletal fingers rather than robotic ones. Finally, the bottom half of Burntrap's mask is gone, revealing his decaying jaw.

Old Endoskeleton

The Mimic's main body is that of an extremely tall endoskeleton, seemingly made of various different animatronic parts. It's left shin and right thigh are almost entirely wire, and multiple nails pointing out of it's right shin. One of its feet greatly resembles Springtrap's feet, and its entire left arm is that of Burntrap's. Its right arm is identical to its left, up until the wrist area where it seems to be a different endoskeleton, with a hand that is significantly different to its other, having a different, blockier shape and one less finger. It's lower jaw is mostly wire, with all of it's teeth being small, almost human-like teeth connected by small metallic joints. A small bit of green fabric is stuck to the endoskeleton's right cheek, while a larger bit of blue fabric is draped over the upper right side of its head. Finally, the Mimic's eyes hold two small glowing orange pupils, which change to glow white during its jumpscare.

Mascot

The mascot suit that the Mimic wears during the Scooper ending is that of a torn up lion wearing a blue varsity sweater. It's left arm is a mixture of the lion suit's arm and the arm of a blue bird suit, with a small magenta bead-bracelet on it's wrist, and the lion's hand. Its right arm is from an elephant clown suit, but is almost entirely ripped open, with most of the endoskeleton arm and hand showing. The feet are made up of the bird and elephant suits respectively, and the left leg is of unknown origin, and has a large tear in it showing bits of the suit's wire-frame. The lion's head is ripped open, with the snout entirely missing and it's jaw drooped downward. The area around its left eye is torn, and its right eye is entirely missing. A bit of blue fabric is stuck to the side of its head, and on the other side is the lion's ear, poorly stitched onto the mane. Finally, a large gash in the suit's stomach has resulted in two large wires dangling out of it.

Help Wanted

Glitchtrap lurks within majority of the game, though data about his presence is very scarce at early stages. At this time, there is little explanation for Glitchtrap's appearance other than the small pieces of information scattered throughout Help Wanted. As the first tape is collected on the game, Glitchtrap randomly appears at the doorway at the right side of the player when in the Level Select Room, either waving at the player, or standing and staring. As the player collects more tapes within the segments, he goes closer to the player. As the player collects more Faz Tokens, he starts to become less transparent, revealing his golden appearance.

According to the tape's audio when played, Glitchtrap is said to be some sort of malicious code that entered the game through scanning old animatronic computer chips.

The following information contains spoilers. To view them, click the [show] tag.

According to Tape Girl, the malicious code attached itself to her log tapes, which she was keeping in a separate, protected part of the game's code. Once this happened, she could not delete it and had to fragment it among her sixteen logs. This explains why it materializes more as more tapes are collected. Once all sixteen logs are reassembled, Glitchtrap can fully materialize and will attempt take over the player's body in order to leave the game.

Pizza Party Ending

The following information contains spoilers. To view them, click the [show] tag.

In one of the ending's most notably the "Pizza Party" Minigame on Night Terror's Hard/Nightmare Mode, if going to a certain room, there will be a tape and a show stage of some sort with Bonnie and Chica sitting on one side of it, with Bonnie missing his face. After being in there for a couple of seconds, Glitchtrap will come out of the stage and give the player a signal to follow it. Upon following it, he seems to have transferred the player into a Freddy Fazbear suit, in which we perform in as the credits roll. In the background, Glitchtrap is seen dancing near the prize corner.

16 Tapes Ending

The following information contains spoilers. To view them, click the [show] tag.

Once all the tapes have been collected, Glitchtrap will randomly attempt to merge with the player and escape the game in their body. When this happens, Glitchtrap appears on the main stage and the player has access to the Blacklight Switch, the Showtime and Prize Corner Buttons, and a button on the left side of the level select monitor. The correct sequence seems to be pressing the Showtime Button, then flipping the Blacklight Switch, and finally pressing the button on the side of the monitor.

If the instructions from Tape 16 are not followed the player's vision will slowly fade into a glitchy, purple screen. Once it clears, the player will be standing on the stage as Glitchtrap. The game will then fade to black and the player arrives in the game over room with the option to return to the menu.

If the instructions from Tape 16 are followed the player appears before a metal door with a sliding lock. When opened, Glitchtrap will look through the hold, place a finger to his mouth and shush the player before walking back into the darkness. When the player appears back in the main area, a Glitchtrap plush will be on the floor to their right.

The Curse of Dreadbear

While Glitchtrap doesn't have much of a role within the Curse of Dreadbear DLC, background information on the events of VR surrounding him is revealed. It is revealed that Glitchtrap has possessed the mind of the beta tester Vanessa, who is implied to be the player character, and that she has become his minion and vessel to continue killing. Glitchtrap also appears as a minor easteregg, where he can be seen dancing in the distance.

The 8-bit sprite that appeared in the trailer.

Though never appeared in-game, Glitchtrap was mentioned in the E-Mails. In the e-mails, Steven Wilson, one of the employees in Fazbear Funtime Service, stated that he got kicked off the system and is now locked out after finished scanning the last set of circuit that his co-worker Daniel Rocha gave. Dan later realized it was not a glitch but instead a virus, and informed all crews to stop the virus. This "virus" is most likely Glitchtrap, as this event parallels to the event mentioned by Tape Girl where circuits boards are scanned for The Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience.

An 8-bit sprite version of Glitchtrap also appeared in the launch trailer of the game for only a split second.

Security Breach

After destroying each of the Glamrock animatronics that had been hunting him throughout the night and upgrading Glamrock Freddy with their parts, Gregory and Freddy gain access to a mysterious tunnel underneath the Roxy Raceway. Multiple reports from employees mentioned something underneath Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex draining large amounts of power. Though some employees were sent down there to investigate, none seem to have ever made it back. In response, Fazbear Entertainment simply closed off the area for the time being to be dealt with some other time.

Using all three animatronic parts to go down into the depths beneath the Pizzaplex, Gregory and Freddy discover a buried pizzeria called "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place" heavily damaged by time and fire. As they descend further into an excavation shaft in the middle of the pizzeria, Glamrock Freddy notes that he remembers being here before: Vanny had brought him and the others down there to dig for something, but he had no choice in doing so. He can feel the others are also there, but says that they are angry and confused, before vowing to protect Gregory. They find a massive amalgamation of animatronics sleeping at the bottom of the hole, then fall through some boards in the floor into an office space below.

It is at this point that a cutscene shows Burntrap awakening and emerging from a purple Recharge Station on the other side of the building, before placing his hand on a monitor viewing Freddy and beginning to take control of him. Upon being defeated, the fire damages the pizzeria to the point that the entire cave system starts to collapse. Burntrap attempts to flee, but is grabbed by the Blob and dragged towards the ceiling, leaving his fate uncertain.

Princess Quest

Help Wanted

Within the mobile port of FNaF VR: Help Wanted, a new mode called "Princess Quest" was released. Within this mode, there are multiple enemies within that resemble Glitchtrap.

One enemy is a floating rabbit head with a singular eye. It's coloration is black with a green outline. When getting too close to it, it'll open it's jaw and bite at the player. The other enemy is a more humanoid rabbit with a corrupted face and the same coloration as the previous enemy. It'll walk towards the player and sing at them when they get close.

AmalgamationGlitchtrap

Finally, at the end of the minigame, a large amalgamation appears before the player. It's completely black in coloration, with purple eyes and teeth all over it's distorted body. It has many arms and hands reaching out of it, as well as two large rabbit ears. Finally, it wears a glowing purple bowtie that is slightly angled downward. When it appears, it spouts a distorted noise, which when decoded says "I always come back. Let me out."

Security Breach

Security Breach holds two more additions to the Princess Quest game series, with the Glitchtrap enemies appearing in them, accompanied by a smaller sentry version of them that sometimes flies. While Glitchtrap makes no appearance in either, the ending of the third game shows the Princess unlocking his door from VR, before a loud scream is heard. Due to the third Princess Quest game causing the Princess Quest ending, where Vanessa is shown to be free from Glitchtrap's control, it is speculated that this was meant to be Glitchtrap screaming as the Princess kills him.

RUIN

Throughout the course of RUIN, the Mimic is using Gregory's voice to trick Cassie into shutting off the Security Nodes connected to the M.X.E.S. system that is keeping it trapped. At certain points before its proper encounter, "Gregory's" speech sounds cut, like two different sentences spliced into one, clearly foreshadowing who has actually been speaking to Cassie. Once Cassie disables the M.X.E.S. system and breaks down the concrete barrier to the Mimic's room, the animatronic reveals itself to her, and reveals that she has not been speaking to Gregory the entire time. The animatronic attempts to chase Cassie, but gets stopped by Roxanne, who tells Cassie to run. After the real Gregory explains the situation to Cassie, the Mimic is revealed to have won the fight between it and Roxy, and begins to chase Cassie.

If the player is on the Neutral Ending path, the Mimic will chase Cassie to an elevator, where the elevator doors will shut on its right arm, snapping it off. The Mimic would then proceed to stare at Cassie before the elevator doors shut, in which Gregory apologizes to Cassie, and the elevator eventually falls rapidly downwards.

If the player is on the Scooper Ending path, the Mimic will instead be inside a Mascot costume during its entire encounter, and will chase Cassie into a large room where The Scooper grabs onto it and seemingly destroys the endoskeleton, leaving only the empty mascot suit it was wearing behind.

Help Wanted 2

While Mimic itself is mostly absent from Help Wanted 2, Glitchtrap makes multiple appearances throughout the game, corrupting files both in and outside of minigames, preventing the player from accessing the hard mode levels until the Faz-Wrench is unlocked, and the player is able to take off the mask. He also appears as a minor enemy in a few levels.

Glitchtrap's most prominent appearances are in the two endings of the game. In the normal ending, he exits a Recharge Station before bombarding the player with Nightmare S.T.A.F.F. Bots. After which, the player is shown a cutscene of Mask Bot handing Cassie the Security Mask, suggesting that Glitchtrap was behind Cassie receiving it in RUIN. After this ending, the player unlocks a statue of Mask Bot & Cassie's interaction.

The secret ending follows a Glitchtrap hand giving the player multiple "memory plushies," each of which represent the six victims of William Afton. Once all six are collected, the player is granted the ability to play Princess Quest 4, in which they go through a castle fighting the floating Glitchtrap head enemies. Near the end, the player finds themselves trading with the Old Man, handing over the Security Mask in exchange for Glitchtrap's plush. The player then enters a giant arcade machine, in which they must give the plush to Moon, who delivers it to a giant Vanny on the outside of the machine. Vanny is then seen lifting Glitchtrap up to her eye level, only to then crush him, destroying Glitchtrap seemingly for good.

Secret of the Mimic

While not much is currently known about Mimic's seemingly major role in this game, during at least one of the segments, Mimic is shown to pilot an animatronic known as Jackie, using her suit to pursue the player.

Behavior

Security Breach

During the fight against him, Burntrap walks between three different rooms on the other side of the underground pizzeria. Gregory has to watch for which room Burntrap is currently in and press each room's corresponding button when he attempts to take control of Glamrock Freddy. Doing so causes the room to erupt into flames and damage him, stopping the corruption attempt. Failure to do so in time will have Glamrock Freddy's eyes turn purple, making him become hostile towards Gregory.

He is the only antagonist in the game to not feature a jumpscare of any kind, as he never attacks Gregory himself. Instead, Burntrap sends the broken Glamrock Chica, Roxanne Wolf, and Montgomery Gator after him. The Blob also joins in trying to attack Gregory after Burntrap is damaged a few times, though he doesn't seem to be in control of it.

RUIN

The Mimic speaks to Cassie using Gregory's voice for most of the game, guiding her to deactivate the Security Nodes throughout the facility. Eventually, once it's encountered, it will attempt to grab Cassie before being stopped by Roxanne. After defeating Roxanne, the player enters a chase sequence in which the Mimic will attempt to kill the player before they can make it to their respective ending. The Mimic's appearance is also altered depending on which ending the player can get.

Help Wanted 2

KaijuGlitchtrapPuppetRender

A render of Tilt.

Glitchtrap acts primarily as a graphic used for the Hardmode levels while the player is wearing the Security Mask, and the normal levels when the player enters Hardmode. He does, however, make minor appearances in multiple levels in the form of an arm that hands the player plushies that are needed for the secret ending of the game. These arms only appear when certain criteria in the levels are met. One of these levels is the Bonk a' Bon hardmode level, in which the arm has an addition of a Glitchtrap handpuppet, known in the files as "Tilt". Tilt will appear like any other character in the Bonk a' Bon levels, however hitting him will result in the machine breaking, and the player being required to fix it. If the player fixes the machine, they'll be granted Bonnie's memory plushie. If they fail, Tilt will jumpscare them.

Glitchtrap also makes a minor appearance in the Makeover set of levels, in which his face will occasionally temporarily block the screen, preventing the player from checking what accessories and makeup need to be added to the animatronic. Outside of these small instances, Glitchtrap's appearances are exclusive to the game's two endings.

Unused Content

Burntrap holds a lot of unused content within the files, including a death animation and data for a chase sequence. As well as this, the two lines from the second trailer were originally meant to belong to him, both being voiced by Matthew Curtis. However, Matthew Curtis' voice lines never got used, leading Burntrap to remain mostly silent throughout the whole encounter. It is unknown as to why these were all left unused.

Trivia

General Trivia

  • While it is still ambiguous on if Burntrap and the Mimic are one in the same, a large portion of fans have accepted the idea.
  • The Mimic has the most amount of designs for a singular character than anyone else in the franchise, having a large number of different suits within the novels, and at least 4 in-game designs.

Glitchtrap Trivia

  • Glitchtrap is the first canon, fully three-dimensional, non-withered representation of Spring Bonnie in the series.
  • Glitchtrap's name was initially found in the save files for Help Wanted, albeit with multiple of its name being instances unrelated to the character itself[1].
Glitchtrap (Leftover)

The unused "Glitchtrap"

    • Despite the many appearances of his name in the files, his never named in-game, as Tape Girl only refers to him as "The Anomaly".
    • The file for his model refers to him as "SpringBonnieMan".
    • The name "Glitchtrap" is in-keeping with the tradition of Afton/Spring Bonnie's iterations using the suffix "trap".
      • This has caused controversy between fans of Five Nights at Freddy's, as there is another file labeled Glitchtrap which is a silver-textured model of Springtrap, a model many assumed to be the Springtrap seen in Ennard's Blacklight Vent Repair level. However, it is entirely possible that this model was improperly named or is a leftover file that had another use somewhere in development.
  • His distorted warbles in the level select area are distorted clips of Tape Girl speaking. It is unknown if this is intentional or just because the sound clips were readily available.
  • Glitchtrap is the only new character in Help Wanted to not feature a jumpscare or to not directly attack the player in a level.
  • As the player collects tapes, Glitchtrap will slowly come closer to them.
    • As well as this, collecting Faz Tokens seems to make him more visible and makes his animations smoother.
  • When in Hardmode, Glitchtrap's colors shift from green to a brownish color, and his eyes go from purple to blue.
    • As well as this, closer inspection would show that Glitchtrap's eyes look more "human like" in shape.
  • Glitchtrap can be sometimes seen dancing like in the ending of Pizza Party in the background of the Curse of Dreadbear DLC next to the Five Nights at Freddy's 4 house.
  • In Princess Quest, he as several garbled voice lines, so far only one has been decoded and says "I always come back. Let me out."
  • In Bonk a' Bon: Bonus Round, Tilt's jumpscare is strangely just a pair of floating eyes, rather than the puppet itself.
    • These same eyes are used in the round before the one Tilt appears in as a minor distraction.
  • Both endings of Help Wanted 2 show Glitchtrap having mirrors to events within Security Breach.
    • Glitchtrap's appearance in a recharge station in Help Wanted 2's regular ending could act as a mirror to Burntrap appearing in a recharge station in Security Breach.
    • Glitchtrap's death at the hands of Vanny in the end of Help Wanted 2's secret ending could likely be in reference to the Redemption Ending, which is the implied canonical ending to Security Breach.

Burntrap Trivia

  • Burntrap is the only antagonist in Security Breach to not have a jumpscare of any kind.
  • It is unknown how Glitchtrap was able to leave his body for the events of VR, or how he re-enters it for the events of Security Breach.
  • Despite a line of dialog in a trailer clearly coming from some form of William Afton, Burntrap never speaks throughout his entire encounter.
  • Upon close inspection, it can be seen that the unused model for Spring Bonnie that was originally intended for Help Wanted was partially reused and edited for Burntrap's mask.
    • It's likely the rest of his suit comes from the model as well, though it's hard to tell due to the reference image of Spring Bonnie only showing his head.
  • Burntrap's name, while never mentioned in-game, was confirmed via his files, as well as Steel Wool's blog post for the February patch.[2]
  • While it is unknown who voices Burntrap's various laughs, it is possible that it might've been Matthew Curtis, as he was originally meant to voice the character.
  • According to the Character Encyclopedia, "Burntrap" is not the character's canon name.
    • Despite this, no alternative alias is given to the character.

Mimic Trivia

  • The Mimic is said to be able to morph its body to fit into any suit, which could explain why it's notably shorter when in the Mascot suit.
  • The mascot suit Mimic wears is a combination of three other suits within the game, being an elephant, a bird, and a lion.
    • The former two appear in-game shrouded in darkness in the room Mimic is in, meanwhile the complete version of the lion appears to be entirely unused.
      • Strangely, neither the elephant nor the bird are removed from the game when the Scooper Ending's criteria are met, despite both of them being a part of Mimic's amalgamation suit.
  • Mimic's mascot suit is theorized to meant to resemble Gregory, who it is mimicking the entire game, with the lion being a base being the primary evidence for this, as it holds brown hair, and a blue shirt.
    • This could explain why Mimic had torn off the snout of the lion, as it could have been an attempt to make the suit look more "human" in appearance.
  • Mimic's first gallery icon in Help Wanted 2 uses a fan-render featured on the Five Nights at Freddy's Wiki's article on the character.[3]
    • The icon was later replaced with one that both used a render made by Steel Wool, but also more accurately reflected Mimic's in-game appearance.
